Mens Walking Boots
Mens walking boots are supportive, weather-ready footwear made for covering ground on foot — from muddy bridleways and fell paths to the daily dog walk. A good pair keeps your feet dry, grips loose and wet ground, and supports your ankle over uneven terrain. At Hi-Tec, we’ve been building exactly that since 1974, and our mens range covers everything from lightweight trail boots to fully waterproof leather hikers.
We’ve a saying around here: there’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong footwear. So whether you’re tackling a Lake District ridgeline or just refusing to let a grey Tuesday keep you indoors, there’s a pair in this collection built to come with you.
What makes a good mens walking boot?
Three things matter more than anything else: waterproofing that lasts, grip you can trust, and comfort you don’t have to break in for a fortnight. Every boot in our mens range is built around those three. Here’s the Hi-Tec tech doing the work:
Dri-Tec waterproof membrane
Our breathable waterproof system keeps rain and puddles out while letting sweat and heat escape — so your feet stay dry from the outside and from the inside. It’s the difference between a boot that’s waterproof on day one and one that’s still dry on its hundredth outing.
Rugged outsole
A deep-lugged rubber outsole engineered for grip on the surfaces you actually walk on: wet rock, slick roots, loose gravel and soft mud. It bites going uphill and brakes coming down.
All-day cushioning and support
Removable cushioned footbeds, supportive midsoles and padded collars mean our boots feel right out of the box. Many of our mens styles are genuinely lightweight too, so you’re not dragging your feet by mile eight.

Are Hi-Tec walking boots waterproof?
Yes — the boots in our waterproof mens range feature the Dri-Tec membrane, a breathable barrier that stops water getting in while letting moisture out. That keeps your feet dry whether you’re crossing a stream, walking through wet grass at dawn, or caught out by a downpour. Look for “WP” in the boot name or the Waterproof and Dri-Tec filters on this page to see every waterproof style. For everyday dry-weather walking and drier trails, our non-membrane boots are lighter and still seriously grippy.
Hi-Tec and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
Hi-Tec is a recommended kit supplier for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Several of our waterproof mens boots are DofE-recommended, which means they meet the durability, weather-resistance and comfort standards expected on expedition. If you’re buying for a Bronze, Silver or Gold participant, DofE Kit collection is the quickest way to find a boot that’s up to the task — and won’t need three weekends to break in.
Looking after your walking boots
A bit of care goes a long way. Knock off mud after each walk, let boots air-dry away from direct heat (radiators crack leather and degrade adhesives), and re-proof leather and fabric uppers a few times a season to keep the water beading off. Loosen the laces fully before you put them on and take them off — it saves the heel counter and keeps the fit true for longer.
Frequently asked questions
How should mens walking boots fit?
Snug at the heel with room to wiggle your toes — you shouldn’t feel your toes hit the front when walking downhill. Always try boots with the socks you’ll actually walk in. Hi-Tec boots tend to come up about a half-size small, so if you’re between sizes, size up.
What’s the difference between walking boots and hiking boots?
In the UK the terms are used interchangeably. Both describe supportive, grippy, usually waterproof boots for walking off-road. “Hiking boots” sometimes implies a stiffer, taller boot for rougher terrain, while “walking boots” can cover lighter trail styles too — but you’ll find both ends of that range in this collection.
Are these boots good for everyday wear?
Absolutely. Plenty of our customers wear their Hi-Tec boots for the commute, the school run and the weekend walk alike. The waterproofing and grip that handle a mountain path are just as welcome on a wet pavement in February.
Do you offer wide-fit walking boots?
Yes — selected styles such as the Storm Wide Fit are built on a roomier last for broader feet. Check the product page for fit notes and filters where available.
