Get Equipped for the Coast
This Autumn, our team from HI‑TEC® Europe joined forces with Big Blue Ocean Clean-up for a dedicated shoreline restoration at Southend‑on‑Sea. Together, we removed plastic waste and debris from the beach – clearing five large sacks of litter and debris from a much-loved stretch of coastline.
This collaboration speaks powerfully to HI-TEC’s commitment to sustainability, responsible outdoor activity and giving back to the environments that inspire our products. As Lilly Wieland, Marketing Manager at HI-TEC Europe says: “As an outdoor brand, it’s our responsibility to look after the places we all love to explore. Our staff are proud to take time out of their schedules to get hands-on in making a real difference for our coastlines and oceans.”
Big Blue Ocean Clean-up also welcomed the partnership. Rory Sinclair says, “We are thrilled to be partnering with HI-TEC for the Southend beach clean. Events like this show the positive impact businesses and communities can have when they work together. Every piece of plastic removed from the shoreline helps protect marine life, supports cleaner oceans and inspires others to take action.”
We hope it will inspire others to take similar action in their own communities and support global ocean conservation efforts. Whether you’re taking a stroll on the sand, walking your dog by the shore, or heading out for a dedicated beach clean, each step and each bit of debris removed matters.
Heading out on a beach clean means you’ll want footwear that can cope with mixed terrain (sand, rocky areas, damp patches), offer comfort for walking and standing, and ideally resist salt-water or sand abrasion. Here are some strong picks from HI-TEC’s UK range:
Shop Rainier Hiking Boots
The AWW Rainier Boot delivers durability and dependable waterproof performance for unpredictable coastal terrain. With enhanced cushioning and grip, it provides comfort and stability on sand, and shoreline paths, perfect for city to trail hiking.

Shop Mauna Hiking Boots
The AWW Mauna combines lightweight construction with waterproof performance for fast, agile movement across sandy and uneven coastal ground. The perfect trail shoe for the city to the coast. Engineered with responsive cushioning and dependable traction, it delivers stability and comfort throughout extended beach-clean missions.

Shop Fuse Trek Mid Hiking Boots
Made to move, the FUSE Trek Mid is a sport hiker that keeps up with every stride, from city, to trail, to the beach coastline. Its high-rebound GEO Foam engineered EVA midsole gives you responsive cushioning and a spring in your step, while waterproof protection helps you tackle wet sands, tidal trails, and rocky stretches with confidence. Fast, fun, and built for action - just the way a coastal clean-up should feel.

Shop Altitude Pro RGS Leather Boots
Designed for year-round outdoor performance, the Altitude Pro RGS combines Italian crafted full-grain oiled leather, a waterproof Dri-Tec membrane and a Vibram RGS midsole engineered to optimise gait efficiency and reduce fatigue. Its rugged outsole offers outstanding grip on wet rock, compacted driftwood and mixed shoreline terrain — making it an excellent choice for intensive beach-clean missions, and all-season hiking adventures.

Tips when choosing boots for a beach clean
- Look for waterproof / water-resistant materials if you’ll be near tidal zones or wet sand.
- Choose soles with good grip — beaches can be unexpected (wet rock, seaweed, shells).
- Go for boots that offer ankle support if you’ll be stepping over driftwood, rocks or unstable surface.
- Comfort matters — Choose boots with a great level of comfort and flexibility.
- Easy to clean afterwards is a bonus — rinse off salt/sand to keep your boots lasting.
Essential supplies
- Gloves: Protect your hands from sharp objects or other hazards. Sturdy gardening gloves are a good reusable option.
- Rubbish bags and/or buckets: For collecting litter and separating recyclables.
- Litter pickers: To help you pick litter without bending down or touching it directly.
- First-aid kit: For any minor injuries that may occur.
- Hand sanitiser: To clean your hands after you're done.
- Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is crucial, especially in the sun.
- Weather-Appropriate clothing: Wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and suitable for the weather.
Why Beach Cleans Matter
- Plastic and waste that reaches shoreline areas can be carried into the sea, damaging fragile marine ecosystems.
- Clean beaches create a safer, more enjoyable space for wildlife and people alike.
- Corporate-community collaborations like this help raise awareness, spark change, and build momentum for preserving our natural world.
- A beach clean offers a tangible way to engage with sustainability — get active, outdoors, and do something you can see and feel.
